Purpose Driven Life - Day 12 - Developing Your Friendship with God

Apologies to all I missed at the prayer meeting last night but I overdid it yesterday (solid meetings from 7am in the morning until late afternoon) which was very stupid and felt like if I went out in the evening I could be looking at another 2 weeks in bed :-( Anyway, sounds like another very good turn out and the two Ben's (Oliver and Davies) stepped in and lead it very well.

Feeling tons better this morning after a great nights sleep so really looking forward to today (and yes I will take it easier than yesterday!).

Hope to see you at some point over the 24 hours of prayer (off to lead the first slot in a minute).

Simon.

--------------------------------------------------

You are as close to God as you choose to be!

“Draw close to God, and God will draw close to you.” James 4:8 (NLT)

Like any friendship, you must work at developing your friendship with God. It won’t happen by accident. It takes desire, time, and energy.

The first building block of a deeper friendship with God is complete honesty—about your faults and your feelings. God doesn’t expect you to be perfect, but he does insist on complete honesty. Every time you trust God’s wisdom and do whatever he says - even when you don’t understand it - you deepen your friendship with God.

We don’t normally think of obedience as a characteristic of friendship - that’s reserved for relationships with a parent or the boss or a superior officer - not a friend. However, Jesus made it clear that obedience is a condition of intimacy with God. He said, “… You are my friends, if you obey me.” John 15:14 (CEV)

There is nothing—absolutely nothing—more important than developing a friendship with God. Paul told Timothy, “Some of these people have missed the most important thing in life—they don't know God.” 1 Timothy 6:21a (LB)

Have you been missing out on the most important thing in life? You can do something about it starting now. Remember, it’s your choice. You are as close to God as you choose to be.

study continues to provoke and challenge me and also to comfort and help me

i was particularly thinking of page 88 where it says.."the key to friendship with God isnt changing WHAT we do but changing our ATTITUDE with which we do it..!!"

last night at prayer time i was also encouraged by the word that Ken brought about .."freshness"...God was bringing us freshness in all we do all we are involved in...and i certainly feel that this is what the study is bringing to me.alongside the evening prayer time

this mornings study is very challenging...not only about friendship with God and how to go deeper...but also friendship with others...about honesty and caring for friends...lots of food for thought and application

just as an aside...i have found fasting this week (i am fasting breakfast and lunch)...okay...but we also decided to fast from watching telly...wow...that was a bit of an eye opener...whilst we dont watch a lot i do like my CSI and having Sky can usually settle down about 9pm for an hour or so...by wednesday i was climbing the walls...never mind food..i wanted Mac and Grissom and New York and Miami.!!!! but i am pressing on till weekend ....just shows how things can so easily entangle us.!!!

Chris ..of course ....hasnt missed any of it all gggrrrr

I too was touched by the freshness word brought last night at the prayer meeting. Although over the last twelve months I have personally been regathering my thoughts and strengths I really feel it was a time of waiting on god for that freshness to consume me.

Todays 24 prayer has been great, to be specific about areas such as Lifegroups (one of my passions), TMTL, our commuity and leaders as well as Childrens work and KIC. I love the interactive and creative aspects of the prayer room a great idea we need more of this!

It is such a privelege to be part of a church that does so much for our community as well as growing us spiritually.

I feel like I'm flying today and can only put that down to God and all that he has in store for us as a church and for me personally.
Thankyou Lord you are truly awesome

Sandra
