Purpose Driven Life - Day 31 - Understanding Your Shape

More clues today on how to find where you were gifted to serve. Please take time as you read this to really consider the unique gifts and passions God has given you and how you can serve in a way which fits those.

I'm not sure I really want to share this but I'm not feeling well again - just washed out and no energy. The doctor reckons it's a follow on from the kidney infection I had last month. I'm booked in to see a specialist on Thursday to get checked out, so if you have a moment please can you pray for me that they'll be able to work out what is going on as I'm bored being unwell! That will teach me to preach on "all things work together for good.." and how we need to live our lives in the light of that!

Hope you have a great day.

Only you can be you!

You shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 (Msg)

God designed each of us so there would be no duplication in the world. No one has the exact same mix of factors that make you unique. That means no one else on earth will ever be able to play the role God planned for you. If you don’t make your unique contribution to the Body of Christ, it won’t be made. “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts … different ways of serving … and different abilities to perform service.” 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 (TEV)

Your abilities are the natural talents you were born with. One of the most common excuses people give for not serving is “I just don’t have any abilities to offer.” This is ludicrous. You have dozens, probably hundreds, of untapped, unrecognized, and unused abilities that are lying dormant inside you.

Like stained glass, our different personalities reflect God’s light in many colors and patterns. This blesses the family of God with depth and variety. It also blesses us personally. When you minister in a manner consistent with the personality God gave you, you experience fulfillment, satisfaction, and fruitfulness.

You will be most effective when you use your spiritual gifts and abilities in the area of your heart’s desire, and in a way that best expresses your personality and experiences. The better the fit, the more successful you will be.

I hope you are feeling better soon Simon. I know what you mean about reading/saying something just before it happens, I read the chapter on troubles just about a day before I had my bag stolen, which has taught me a lot and as a result of loosing my diary in the process has challenged me on my use of time as I piece together my diary.

this whole set of chapters on serving has been such good timing for me...i love all the word tools...eg...

these kind of things are so simple but really satisfy me...i am so easy to please..!!!

one of the main things i see about serving is that it has to be about something that you are passionate about...for me its.."people"...and i can use that passion to fit most areas of service...

and it also has to be something that is natural to each of us...the worldly saying of "if it feels good...do it.." holds true to some extent in this....

one thing i noticed at church on sunday whilst watching and talking with folk at the ministry tables was the .."stereotype" barrier.....one or two people said to me..."cant do car parking..its for men"...and one woman i talked to looked longingly at the tech team table and when i said..."go and sign up" she said..."but they are all men.....".we need to break this barrier so that all kinds of service can be done by those who are passionate regardless of whether male or female

on the note of "all things work together" catriona and nick have been given a car...after their accident on saturday when the car they were driving looks to be a write off they have been given a car for free..isnt it amazing that God can bring good out of this frightening time for them....

and on the subject of the body caring for one another can i commend their life group...meals have been cooked ..flowers and chocs have been given ...kitchens have been cleaned and friends have been round to keep them company....this is "church" in all its glory.!!

ps ..simon...i hope the docs appointment goes well and that you are soon back to normal health...praying for you

Hi Simon,
I'm so sorry that you are unwell again. We will be praying for you this evening at the LG.
You are in good company, many leaders in the bible had a difficult start to their ministry but God used them all the more because of it. We will pray to that end that God will use even this for your good, and the good of the church and for His glory.
Don't rush back this time, have a good rest.

Really enjoying these last few days I'm so pleased that we're all doing this together. I've found myself being able to "serve" others in a much deeper way since reading this. I know God has got great plans for me and I believe I have found my passion and gifting in music but it has taken quite a few years to come to this realisation - I too have served in many different areas and found that they weren't really for me. God knows exactly where he wants you to be - just let him tell you..
Get well soon Simon :-)
