Read John chapter 20
Key
Verse:
“So Jesus said to them again, Peace
to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” John 20:21
[NKJV]
The tomb
is empty and Jesus has risen from the dead as the Scripture had said [verse 9].
Jesus appears first to Mary Magdalene. Then He came to the upper room where the
doors were shut because the disciples were afraid of the Jews.
Twice
Jesus spoke peace to the disciples. The first time He spoke to their fears and
then showed them His hands and side. Then Jesus spoke peace to them again, but
this time He is commissioning them and so it is peace to their future. Peace at
this moment and peace about the future is the wonderful promise of Jesus, who is
the Prince of Peace. Would you allow Him at this moment to speak peace into
your circumstances and your future?
Then
Jesus tells the disciples that He is sending them to a needy world, in the same
way that the Father sent Him. How did the Father send Jesus? To lay down His
life for those He came to save; to live a life of obedience and communion with
the Father; to identify with those He came to save; to minister in the power of
the Holy Spirit; to do spiritual battle against a wicked enemy and to take back
his captives and set them free. This is the life that Jesus has called us to as
His disciples!
Questions:
Can you
think of a difficult time in your life when you experienced God’s supernatural
peace? Remember how that peace came and remember also that Jesus has promised
that peace at every stage of your life [see Philippians 4:7].
Was the
commission of Jesus to be sent out to a needy world in the same way that His
Father sent Him just for those in the upper room or is also for us today? If it
is for us today, then what does mean in practice for you personally?
